Laura is an award-winning independent artist from Melbourne, Australia. Her work is seen in children's books, television, album covers and commercials.
I recently signed with Penguin Random House to illustrate a new chapter book for kids. It’s a gorgeous tale about an unlikely friendship between a dog and a cat, so I’ve been doing some fun character studies. More details to follow – the book is due for release in September 2018.
I’m currently delighted to be working with many talented Melbourne artists on Kitty is Not a Cat. This is a new kid’s show that is cute a button! We are in the middle of production, this will be coming to TV later in the year.
I’m now a proud member of Illustrators Australia. The organisation represents many extremely talented and hardworking Australian artists, and I’m delighted that they have taken me aboard!
I was recently interviewed by a big name in the children’s book community – the amazing Nicky Johnston. I really enjoyed talking about my creative process, my workspace and my role models. Take a moment to read the interview, and browse through the site.
I’m so excited to announce that I recently sold the rights to my first children’s picture book to Hachette Australia. The book is due for publication in February 2018, and is loosely based on these illustrations of mine.
This year I’m creating a new illustration series. Aussie Battlers will shine a light on Australia’s critically endangered species. First up is the Orange-bellied Parrot, who desperately need our attention.
This year I took part 52 Week Illustration Challenge, where a theme is issued each week and we each create an original illustration on that theme. I completed the challenge this week!
You can see all of my 52 unique submissions here. The favourites of the Challenge are posted weekly here. Here is my final illustration for the challenge. Thanks to everyone who liked my work and left supportive comments, it has meant a lot to me!
For the past few months I’ve been working on backgrounds and animation for this comedy series, Ginger Snaps. It might look cute, but it’s not for kids! It’s been a pleasure to work on a USA production from my home in Australia.
I recently had the pleasure of working on 16 interstitials for Disney Junior here in Australia. Aussie kids sent in videos telling us what they want to be when they grow up, and we brought them to life. The shorts are now screening on Disney Junior, and the full gallery is here.
