Australia’s first animated sketch comedy

I recently finished up production on an animated comedy program called Suspect Moustache, created by the comedian Fabian Lapham. I animated some great scenes in this show, it was a lot of fun! The show screened on SBS recently and is available to view online here.

Interview with SCBWI

I was recently interviewed from my home in Melbourne, by a writer in Switzerland, about the award I received in Italy.  So global. The lovely Elizabeth Norton asked some fantastic questions about my process for the SCBWI community. You can read the interview here.

The Song Tailors album cover

Here is an illustration I created for The Song Tailors, a new music project at Rock Candy Productions. Their lovely music can be heard here.

New animated series

I’ve just wrapped up working on a new animated series for the amazing team at Working Dog, the guys being The Castle, Utopia and Frontline!  The series is called Pacific Heat and will be on Foxtel later in the year.

Bologna Illustrators’ Gallery shortlist

My piece ‘A Little Nonsense’ has been shortlisted for the SCBWI Illustrator’s Gallery prize at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy!

Very excited to just be part of this list of fantastic children’s illustrators.

Progress photos

Here are some work-in-progress shots to share a bit about my process. This is for my piece ‘Printing’, for the 52 Week Illustration Challenge.

First I rough out the lettering.

Then neaten it up and use tracing paper for the symmetrical parts.

And pencil in this guy. I did these parts separately so I could adjust size and placement later.

Pencil is finished.

Then I start inking. I did the outline in fine liner then filled it in.

I also used a brush dipped in ink to do some of the messy parts.

The ink is finished and the pencil erased. This is ready to scan.

Now in Photoshop, I put the parts together and got the placement right. Then I do some colour correction, add shadows, adjust the lighting, add some texture, and…

…finished!

Work station

Just a little insight into how I work and all my tools – fine liners, watercolours, tracing paper, references, and mess.

New illustrations in 2016

This year I’m one of thousands of artists participating in the 2016 52-week Illustration Challenge. The Challenge gives us one theme each week, and we create a new illustration on that theme, for 52 weeks! Here is my first entry, the theme is ‘Fancy Dress’.

You can follow the Challenge on Facebook, and I’ll be posting all my submissions here.
